What is it about the holidays that makes people grouchy, mean, and downright rude to the people around them?  People fight over parking spots, bargain priced laptops, and Starbucks gift cards.  They are rude to each other and to the tired salespeople who are doing their best to assist them in any way they can.  If I had one message to send out over the holidays, it would be to "be kind to the person behind the counter".  We are not corporate robots programmed to thwart your attempts at getting the "perfect" gift (despite popular belief).  We did not purposefully sell every copy of the book you "have to have" in order to ruin your day (and we don't have a secret room for people who live in a certain upscale part of town which shall remain nameless).  We are normal, nice people who try very hard to get you what you need as quickly as possible.  We are just as tired as you.  We are just as tired of long lines.  We are just as tired of traffic.  We are just as tired of rude people.  We are just as tired of every version of "Frosty the Snowman" as you are.  In fact, most of us are so tired of the holiday-hype that the thought of venturing into other stores to get our own holiday shopping done is overwhelming.  All I'm asking for is a little consideration before you get angry of frustrated with the person who is trying to assist you.  This is supposed to be the "most wonderful time of the year"... let's start acting like it!  :)  We all need to focus less on getting the "biggest" and "hottest" gifts and more on the irreplaceable gift of being able to spend time with the ones that we love.  Just remember-- salespeople are humans too!!  ;)
